Staying Home Today, So We Can Travel Tomorrow

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has launched the #traveltomorrow hashtag campaign in the hope to promote positivity throughout the tourism industry.

“For many millions of people around the world, tourism is so much more than a leisure activity,” said Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UNWTO. “Opening the world up to tourism again will save jobs, protect livelihoods, and enable our sector to resume its vital role in driving sustainable development.”

One of the main pillars of the campaign is standing in solidarity with affected countries, with Germany, Kenya, Morocco, Mongolia, Oman, and Uruguay recently adopting the hashtag.

The hashtag also seeks to emphasize “Tourism’s proven resilience and by standing ready to support recovery”. The WTO will also be working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure that health measures are implemented and have minimum impacts on international travel and trade.

“Historically, tourism has proven itself as a key driver of international recovery, and as early as now, we must begin to prepare in order to build the foundations of the future resilience of tourism,” said Pololikashvili.

The campaign is supported by UNWTO’s Global Tourism Crisis Committee, a committee responsible for implementing financial and political support to help the tourism industry.
